As for cauterization, it has several aspects. Whoever sees upon himself the mark of an old or recent cauterization protruding from the skin, then he will obtain worldly wealth from a treasure. If he acts with it in obedience to Allah, Mighty and Majestic, he will prosper; and if he acts with it in disobedience to Allah, he will be cauterized on the Day of Resurrection with that treasure which he used to amass in the world, for His words, Exalted is He: "then their foreheads and their sides will be branded with it."

It is the acquiring of wealth along with spending much of it in something other than obedience to Allah the Exalted, on account of His saying, the Exalted: "On the Day when it will be heated in the fire of Hell and they will be branded with it," the verse. And perhaps it indicates the miserliness of its owner. And it is said that cauterization is painful speech. And perhaps for people of office it is steadfastness in affairs. And perhaps cauterization indicates marriage and travel, and for women it indicates childbirth.
