As for offering condolence, it signifies safety. So whoever sees that he offered condolence to someone stricken by affliction, then he has the like of that person's reward, because of the saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him): "Whoever consoles one stricken by affliction has the like of his reward"; and the reward of Allah the Exalted entails safety.
