Ibn Shahin al-Zahiri, al-Isharat fi Ilm al-Ibarat

Whoever sees that he is disputing with someone over a matter of worldly affairs, then he is striving in seeking his sustenance; and if he is the one who prevails, nothing of what he intended from that request will come to him, and if he is not, then the opposite of that.
