(The garden meadow) As for the meadow whose substance is unknown, whose vegetation cannot be described except by its greenness, it indicates Islam, because of its freshness and the beauty of its splendour; and the Prophet (peace be upon him) interpreted it thus.

It may indicate, within Islam, every place of merit and every spot in which Allah is supplicated, such as the grave of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), the circles of dhikr, the gatherings of good, and the acceptance of the people of righteousness — because of his saying (peace be upon him): "What is between my grave and my pulpit is a meadow from the meadows of Paradise," and his saying (peace be upon him): "The grave is either a meadow from the meadows of Paradise or a pit from the pits of the Fire."

The meadow may also indicate the Quranic codex, and a book of knowledge and wisdom, from their saying: "Books are the meadow of the wise and the pleasure-garden of the learned." And perhaps the meadow indicates Paradise and its meadows.

So whoever goes out from a meadow to a salt marsh, or to black or burnt ground, or to snakes and scorpions, or to ashes or dung, or to falling into a sea — his condition is examined: if he is dead, he has been given the Fire in exchange for Paradise, and torment in exchange for bliss. And if that is seen for a living Muslim, he has departed from Islam through unbelief or innovation, or he has departed from its conditions and the qualities that befit it through a major sin and disobedience.

As for one who sees himself in a meadow eating of its greenery or gathering from what is in it: if that is during the days of Hajj, or if the call to prayer is being made in it in the dream, he will perform Hajj. And if he is in Mecca hoping to visit the grave of the Prophet (peace be upon him), that will be completed for him and he will visit his grave; and what he ate or gathered will be reward and recompense that accrues to him.
