(It was related to us) by Muhammad ibn Shadhan, who said: Muhammad ibn Sulayman related to me, from al-Hasan ibn al-'Ala', from Husam ibn Muhammad ibn Muti' al-Maqdisi, from Sa'id ibn Mansur, from Ibn Jurayj, from 'Ata', who said: I saw the Prophet (peace be upon him) in a dream, so I said: O Messenger of Allah, a question. He said: Put it forward. I said: Is jihad better, or guarding the frontier (ribat)? So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The ribat — guarding the frontier for a day and a night is better than a thousand years of worship.
