As for standing at Arafah, it may indicate fasting, because what is required in it is standing while watching for the setting of the sun and the breaking of dawn: one departs from it when the sun has set, and whoever has the dawn break upon him without having stood there has missed the Hajj — like the fasting person who watches for the sun's disappearance for his breaking of the fast, and when it has set eating and drinking become lawful for him; and eating is the cause of life and of the movement by which the one standing at Arafah departs.
