A rare account: It is related that when the Prophet (peace be upon him) was taken (in death) and the Arabs apostatised, al-Tufayl al-Dawsi went out with the Muslims, and they marched until they had finished with Tulayha and all the land of Najd, until they reached al-Yamama. That night he slept and saw as though his head had been shaved and a bird came out of his mouth, and as though a woman had inserted him into her vulva, and his son was seeking him urgently, and that he was confined therein. He related his dream to his companions and they said, "It is good." He said: I will interpret this dream. As for the shaving of my head, it is its being laid down; as for the bird that came out of my mouth, it is my spirit; and the woman who inserted me into her vulva, she is the earth; and my confinement in it is the grave in which I shall remain; and the child who seeks me, perhaps there will befall him what befell me. So al-Tufayl was killed as a martyr, and then the like befell his son in the year of al-Yarmuk.
