An anecdote: It is related that Abu al-Abyad was a virtuous man. He slept and saw as though dates and raisins were brought to him, and he ate of them, and then he entered Paradise. So he came to al-Abbas ibn al-Walid and recounted his dream to him. He said: "As for the dates and raisins, they are present here with us, and you have come before eating, so you shall eat them both; and as for Paradise, Allah, glorified and exalted be He, will hasten it for you." And he called for the dates and raisins, and he ate them both, and he said: "This is glad tidings confirming that you are among the people of Paradise." So he went out from his presence, and an unbeliever charged at him and killed him — and perhaps he was killed in a military expedition — and it was just as he had seen.
